It's been quite a while since the last update. My life has been fairly boring recently, although that is the norm most of the time. There is comfort in knowing what's coming. I think this post will jump around a bit. You've been warned...
Two weeks ago was Spring Break at dance and while I enjoyed the small break, I missed my girls (and Jacob). Getting them all back into the swing of things was difficult, especially since some were still on Spring Break from school. As we have 3 weeks left until the end of dance (which leaves about 3 weeks from the end of classes until the recital - don't get me started on that), there's a lot still to finish and clean up. And costumes to think about. They have been ordered and I'm so excited for them to come in. The kids are always so excited to try on their costumes for the first time and see how they look. I'll admit I'm a little nervous about my Teen Jazz/Hip Hop class because I stepped out of my comfort zone. While I believe it will be fine, I'm still nervous. The girls are really excited about them though. I'll post pictures when I can.
I cannot wait for the 160th to be done. While I do not want to see them go, 6 weeks is a long time for a course to keep going. If I got my way, we'd go back to the 5 week schedule with a 3 week break or esprit de corps time to have fun with them. I'll miss this class more than most. I think they may have outstripped the 153rd as my favorite class of all time. I can't even describe how amazing they are. I get a kick out of seeing them everyday. Many of them take the time to say good morning or to ask how I'm doing. Most people don't, so it's refreshing. I can't wait to see what they do with their careers and their lives. To the Amazing 160th, I'll miss you so much when you leave. You are all fantastic and inspiring. Please keep in touch. And keep me posted on those happy hours. I'll be able to come to one in about 3 weeks.
My mom's house officially went on the market last Saturday, with the first open house on Sunday. My aunt and uncle are selling it, which I think causes my mom a little discomfort, but she's doing this to keep the peace in the family, I guess. I was curious and had to stop by, so a couple minutes before 4, I walked in. My aunt said there were a lot of groups and a lot of interest that day, so I hope that bodes well. I'll be happy to see this all end. Most people would expect me to be sad that my mom's moving and selling the house I grew up in, but since she's been talking about it for years, I'm just ready for it to happen. Yes, I don't like not having a house here anymore, but this place will always be my home, for better or worse. And I'll have a place to visit since she's moving to the beach! I can't wait to take Jake down there, for his first time at the beach, and his first long-haul ride in the car with me. He should really enjoy it.
I'm still waiting for life to catch up. Patience has never been easy, but I only have a few weeks left to stew. In the mean time, I have a dance recital, a move, and a trip to Hawaii with one of my best friends to look forward to. Hopefully, I'll also be able to take some weekend vacations this summer as well. It's my favorite time of the year and I'm hoping to take more advantage of it than in past years. Picnics, plane watching at Reagan, trips to parks and the beach, visits to college friends...all of these are on my mind.
And I can't sign off without addressing the historic news of the day. I have never wanted this blog to be political in nature, nor any other truly hot-button topic. I figured it would be about my life, but living where I do means that a lot of things affect my life. Politics, religion, war, gas prices, etc. So please believe I say this with the utmost respect - Osama bin Ladin took away our sense of comfort and I am glad our military was able to take him down. Our country is not perfect, but it is ours and we fight to protect it and our people. I can't say enough thank yous to the military, the Americans who work in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and those who have fought alongside us for the protection of our freedom. You are all amazing people who do amazing work and I hope to one day be like you. And to my one friend in Pakistan, please stay safe. I miss you.
